Worldwide Photographic Journeys

Julie-Anne Davies

Julie-Anne lives with her husband and two children on their rural homestead in the heart of the Purcell and Rocky Mountain ranges of Western Canada.

She has over 25 years of experience in a diverse range of genres, having shot weddings, lifestyle and family portraiture, outdoor adventure, travel photography, landscapes and most recently all-female outdoor expeditions. She currently travels year round as a visual storyteller, hosting and documenting expeditions in the Polar regions and around the globe.

Julie-Anne is drawn to remote corners of the world and in particular to places where people’s lives are still intricately tied to the land on which they depend. The human condition and how it is shaped by its relationship to nature drives an endless curiosity in Julie-Anne and forms the backbone of her photography work. Fascinated by ethnography, she hopes to play a part in contributing to the visual archive of the beautiful but vanishing cultural diversity among humanity.

She is a five time exhibitor in the Atlas of Humanity project, an ethnographic showcase of the world’s diverse cultures and has been featured in National Geographic, Explore Magazine, PhotoNews Canada, AAP Magazine, Travel & Leisure India, Lens Magazine, PhotoEd Magazine, Discover India, Canadian and NZ Climbing Publications and the United Nations. She recently had three images featured in ‘Faces’, a contemporary Portrait exhibition in Milan.

She was the winner of the Canadian Backcountry Purist award for her documentation of ski culture in the mountains of British Columbia, and the winner of the IAPB WorldSight Day, International Women’s Day, International Association of Professional Wedding Photographers and All About Photo Travel competitions.

She is fiercely curious by nature and a nomad at heart. Julie-Anne is driven to share her passion with other photography enthusiasts and is patient, easy-going and deeply committed to ethical photographic principles in her work.

When at home, her energy is spent with her family, gardening, exploring and photographing the stunning Canadian landscape and most recently, exploring the human connection to our changing natural environment through film and storytelling.
